DISCOVER UNIQUE PLACES
The island of Pico is a place that never ceases to surprise.
In this section, we would like to give you some ideas for some easy hikes, that can be carried out on foot, in which to fully enjoy the incredible scenery that only the Pico Island has to offer. Walking in an area classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2004 will be a real and powerful experience.
THE VINEYARDS
The vineyards are one of the pillars on which rests the prestige and tradition of the island of Pico. Since the eighteenth century, the wine from Pico, coming mainly from the grape called verdelho, is widely appreciated throughout Europe. The uniqueness of the viniculture of Pico has been recognized at the international level in 2004. Do not miss the opportunity to walk through the vineyards, visit the museum and taste some wine.
THE NATURAL POOLS
A great opportunity to enjoy the refreshing ocean, is to go to one of the natural pools that exist on the Island.
Some pools are totally natural, man has place only the access ladder, while others are more organized and repaired and also offer facilities like toilets, showers and small bars or kiosks.
THE CLIFFS
Pico has a heavily indented coastline that alternates coves easily reached by car or on foot and breathtaking cliffs from which to enjoy a beautiful landscape.
On these cliffs, you can see and photograph the breaking of the waves with the resulting uproar, made even more spectacular by the presence of small caves and inlets that amplify the effect.
